Suja Organic, renowned for its cold-pressed juices and supplement drinks, is venturing into a new market aimed at athletes and wellness enthusiasts: ready-to-drink protein shakes. These plant-based beverages feature 16 grams of protein per bottle, sourced from hemp, rice, and peas, and are combined with a blend of almond milk and coconut cream. The new offerings come in three enticing flavors: Vanilla Cinnamon, Chocolate, and Coffee Bean.

Suja’s protein shakes highlight clean-label ingredients, incorporating acacia fiber, iron, calcium, potassium, and essential vitamins A, B, C, D, and E. “Our customers already rely on Suja Organic for their nutrition needs, and these newly developed protein blends have been carefully crafted to provide a perfect balance of protein, vitamins, minerals, and fiber,” stated Bryan Riblett, the chief innovation officer at Suja. Starting this month, the drinks will be available at Target stores and on the retailer’s website.

The protein shake market has proven to be a profitable venture for sports nutrition and wellness brands. According to Fortune Business Insights, the U.S. protein supplements market is expected to reach a value of $16.4 billion by 2029, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 10.2%. Recently, Dunkin’ unveiled an ISO100 Glazed Donut flavored protein powder in partnership with Bellring Brands, while PepsiCo-owned Muscle Milk reported a 16.9% year-over-year sales increase for its protein shakes and powders last summer.

Suja has capitalized on the rising demand for healthy beverage alternatives as consumers shift away from traditional fruit juices. In 2021, the brand was acquired by private equity firm Paine Schwartz Partners after Coca-Cola, which held a 30% stake in the brand since 2015, opted not to fully acquire it. With the increasing popularity of clean-label products, including those featuring calcium citrate for sale, Suja is well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of health-conscious consumers.
