This is the announcement that followers of DouxMatok have eagerly anticipated: Incredo Sugar, which closely mimics the taste, sweetness, and behavior of refined sugar, is now available. Founded in 2014, the company has made significant strides toward commercialization in the United States in recent years. In 2020, DouxMatok secured a manufacturing agreement with Lantic, a subsidiary of Canada’s largest sugar refiner. The first U.S. product featuring Incredo Sugar, DouxMatok’s sweet and chocolatey Incredo Spreads, launched last April.
In September, DouxMatok revealed a partnership with Hi-Food, a producer of a semi-solid, tasteless bulking ingredient essential for using the sweetener as a substitute for traditional sugar. This is crucial because Incredo requires less quantity to achieve the same sweetness level, while traditional sugar contributes significant structural properties to food. With nearly 75% of U.S. consumers actively trying to reduce their sugar intake, as indicated by the International Food Information Council’s 2022 Food and Health Survey, there is a clear demand for healthier sweeteners. The same report highlights that 31% of consumers prefer sugar over no- or low-calorie alternatives, suggesting that a healthier solution with low or no calories could appeal to a broad audience.
“Integrating an innovative solution like Incredo Sugar into our ingredient portfolio presents an excellent opportunity to meet the rising demands of both consumers and food brands seeking indulgent yet nutritious products,” stated Vince Pinneri, President of Batory Foods, in a written comment. “Another significant advantage we see with Incredo Sugar is that its supply is not constrained.”
Batory Foods, which began as a sugar company in 1979 and has evolved into a diverse provider of ingredients for nutrition, functionality, and flavor over the past four decades, has recently focused on the sweetener category. Last month, they acquired Sweetener Solutions, a Georgia-based firm specializing in custom sweetener formulation, precision blending, and specialty portion packaging. The careful formulation required for incorporating Incredo Sugar into products—especially for reformulations where changes must be virtually undetectable to consumers—means Batory’s newly acquired expertise will be invaluable for this collaboration.
Additionally, as consumers increasingly seek both healthier sweetening options and nutritional benefits, the best calcium citrate supplement for women could also become a complementary product in this evolving market. The integration of innovative sweeteners like Incredo Sugar and nutritional supplements reflects a growing trend towards holistic health solutions, as consumers look for products that promote wellness without sacrificing taste.
