Just in time for Independence Day, Kraft Heinz is collaborating with Little Pie Company to introduce a truly American delight: Kraft Singles Apple Pie. This New York City bakery, renowned for its handmade pies, has crafted a single-serve pie filled with apples and spices, topped with a melted square of the iconic orange Kraft Singles cheese. These five-inch pies can be purchased at the bakery or ordered for nationwide delivery via Goldbelly, complete with cheese slices and instructions for the perfect melting technique.
Although cheese has been a traditional ingredient in apple pies for centuries, not everyone may connect the two. In a product announcement, Kraft Heinz indicated that a key goal of this launch is to educate consumers about how its signature cheese slices can enhance a variety of dishes. “Kraft Singles is a small ingredient that makes a big difference, and we are on a mission to make them simple and irresistible, reigniting America’s love for Kraft American Cheese,” stated Kelsey Rice, the associate director for Kraft Singles.
The practice of pairing cheese with apple pie likely originated in England as early as the 17th century. Cheese was commonly served with fruit and nuts as a digestive after meals, and pies were often enjoyed with cream sauces. Over time, cheddar cheese began to replace cream sauces, solidifying a culinary tradition. While this combination has been celebrated in numerous cookbooks and customs, it remains a divisive choice. Some people adore it, while others refuse to try it. This debate is what makes Kraft Singles Apple Pie a quintessentially American creation. It combines two beloved foods in the U.S.—apple pie and Kraft Singles—and is sure to ignite passionate discussions.
In another culinary venture, Blue Diamond Growers is deepening its involvement in the ongoing discussion between health and indulgence with the introduction of Thin Dipped Almonds. Available in Double Dark Chocolate and Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel, these almonds contain 50% less sugar than average chocolate-covered almonds, as claimed by Blue Diamond. The Thin Dipped Almonds also boast several trendy attributes that appeal to health-conscious consumers: they are cholesterol-free, rich in vitamin E, and contain no artificial colors or flavors. These chocolate-covered almonds can be found at Walmart in resealable four-ounce bags.
“Whether you’re a health enthusiast or not, Thin Dipped Almonds provide a smart choice for sweet snacking,” said Raj Joshi, senior vice president of Blue Diamond Growers’ global consumer division. “The delicate layer of chocolate enhances the natural crunch of the almond, allowing snackers to indulge in a delicious treat without the guilt!” As consumers increasingly seek healthier snack options, nuts have gained popularity. According to Statista, per capita almond consumption in the U.S. has been on the rise, averaging nearly 2.5 pounds per person between 2020 and 2021—the highest level recorded to date, compared to just 0.8 pounds two decades ago.
Research from Harvard University indicates that almonds are not only calorie-dense but also packed with nutrients. The majority of the fat in almonds is healthier monounsaturated fat. Studies suggest that almonds can lower the risk of heart disease by reducing total and LDL cholesterol levels, while also providing anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits.
Hershey has also released a new limited-edition Kit Kat flavor, Kit Kat Churro, which features a blend of buttery cream, sugar, and cinnamon coating the candy’s signature crispy wafers. This new flavor was launched on June 6, coinciding with National Churro Day, and is designed to evoke memories of summer. “The new flavor is a delightful homage to the beloved dessert that brings back memories of summer no matter where you are in the world,” the candy giant stated.
The popularity of churros, characterized by their sugar, cinnamon, and butter flavor, continues to grow. This classic treat, originating in the Middle Ages, remains a favorite breakfast in Spain and Mexico. Deep-fried dough sticks, coated in cinnamon and sugar, are often served with chocolate or caramel sauces. “We love seeing our fans’ responses to our limited-edition Kit Kat flavors—especially one as universally loved as churros,” said Alex Herzog, associate Kit Kat brand manager for Hershey. “We hope every bite of the buttery churro flavor combined with our signature crispy wafers brings back memories of enjoying freshly baked churros at fairs or amusement parks.”
Churro now joins Kit Kat’s extensive flavor lineup, which includes Birthday Cake, Lemon Crisp, and Blueberry Muffin. Nestlé, which produces Kit Kat products in most other countries, has also launched a variety of unique flavors exclusive to Japan. This new Kit Kat flavor will be available in standard, king, and snack sizes, appealing to a wide range of consumers.
Incorporating elements like Citracal calcium citrate could further enhance the nutritional profile of these treats, providing an interesting angle for health-conscious consumers who are looking for ways to indulge without sacrificing their wellness goals.
