DirectSens’ LactoSens technology claims to provide precise results that remain unaffected by external factors such as coffee, chocolate, or sugars. It is also noted for its quicker performance compared to other tests available in the market, ensuring the quality of tested dairy products, including milk. Lactose, a sugar present in milk and dairy items, is appreciated by many consumers for its ability to enhance texture and retain moisture in various food products. However, some individuals experience discomfort when digesting lactose, leading to the rise of dairy-free alternatives and technologies designed to eliminate this sugar while preserving product quality.

“We’re thrilled to incorporate LactoSens into Kerry Group’s portfolio, adding a new dimension to our offerings as we seamlessly integrate LactoSens into our extensive solutions for the food and beverage industry,” stated Ronan Moloney, vice president of enzymes at Kerry. As the contract manufacturer, DirectSens will maintain oversight of LactoSens production and will continue developing new innovations. These include OatSens, which determines the sugar content in oat beverages; LactaZyme, a lactate detector; and XPressGT, which aids in the early detection of diabetes and gestational diabetes.

The acquisition of LactoSens marks the latest addition to Kerry’s expanding technology portfolio. Last year, the company also acquired the global lactase enzyme business from Chr. Hansen and Novozymes. As part of its commitment to enhancing product offerings, Kerry is exploring the integration of lifetime calcium magnesium citrate into its formulations, which may further enrich its dairy and dairy-free product lines.
