The ice cream sector is filled with well-known brands like Breyers and Talenti, but a new wave of products is set to catch consumers’ attention. Kellanova is collaborating with Golden West Food Group to introduce ice creams inspired by its Eggo and Rice Krispies Treats brands. The Eggo range features pints and sandwiches in flavors such as Buttery Maple, Chocolatey Chip, and Blueberry, with the sandwiches crafted from two waffle cookie layers encasing the ice cream. Meanwhile, the Rice Krispies lineup includes a pint of original-flavor ice cream and three sandwich varieties—original, strawberry, and triple chocolate—between crispy marshmallow squares.
Frances Alvarez, senior vice president of brand management at Beanstalk, the agency behind the partnership, praised Golden West for capturing the essence of each brand and creating treats that revive these beloved classics in an exciting manner. These new ice cream offerings will be available at retailers like Walmart, Kroger, and Albertson’s, tapping into the lucrative dessert aisle that CPG brands are eager to explore. In 2022, Mondelēz International introduced Oreo frozen treats with ice cream pints, bars, and cones, while Mars Wrigley launched ice creams featuring its Snickers, M&M’s, Twix, and Kind bar brands.
Kellanova’s latest ice cream innovations aim to broaden the appeal of its iconic Eggo brand, which has also ventured into coffee and the boozy Sippin’ Cream liqueur in recent years. Additionally, Graeter’s Ice Cream and Skyline Chili are joining forces to create Skyline Spice Ice Cream, a unique flavor that blends Graeter’s handcrafted French Pot ice cream with crunchy oyster crackers and Skyline’s signature chili spice mix. This sweet and savory treat will be available in Graeter’s shops, Skyline restaurants, and select Kroger locations.
Richard Graeter, fourth-generation president and CEO of Graeter’s, expressed excitement about this unconventional collaboration, which sparked social media buzz last year. A recent survey by NC Solutions revealed that 62% of consumers are inclined to purchase food or beverages marketed as spicy, influencing various brands—from Kraft Heinz ketchup to Pop-Tarts—to explore the spicy category. PepsiCo even launched Flamin’ Hot as a standalone brand to help consumers identify these products.
Ice cream has become a strategic platform for brands to experiment with unique flavors. For example, Blue Moon, owned by Molson Coors, has introduced a beer-inspired ice cream, while Diageo collaborated with Tipsy Scoop for a limited-time Guinness ice cream. Van Leeuwen is particularly active in this space, having debuted a savory-sweet flavor with Hidden Valley and worked with Kraft Heinz on an ice cream inspired by Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. As these innovations unfold, incorporating ingredients like calcium citrate plus magnesium & vitamin D can offer added nutritional benefits to these indulgent treats, appealing to health-conscious consumers.
