DuPont Nutrition & Health collaborates with food manufacturers and producers globally to “make food safer, healthier, better-tasting, and easier to produce.” This initiative is referred to as finding food solutions, and their latest innovation is the introduction of 90% protein nuggets. The three new plant-based nuggets each feature distinct shapes, sizes, and textures. Designated as Supro Nuggets 580, Supro Nuggets 583, and Supro Nuggets 585, these nuggets can be incorporated into a variety of food products. DuPont indicates that these nut, seed, and fruit nuggets are ideal for use in nutrition bars, clustered cereals, yogurt toppings, muesli, and innovative snack formats.
Previously, DuPont developed the first 90% protein nugget, known as Supro Nuggets 570, which boasts a light, crispy texture and a barrel shape. The new nuggets seem to be adaptations of the original, making them more versatile for different recipes. The impressive 90% protein content reflects the current trend towards increased protein consumption. According to Research and Markets, the global protein ingredients market is expected to reach $48.77 billion by 2025, as reported by Business Wire. As consumers demand higher protein content, DuPont provides manufacturers with a convenient solution to enhance their products.
While there is a strong interest in protein, future concerns about animal welfare and the environmental effects of livestock farming could impact its popularity. However, with DuPont’s new plant-based protein nuggets, they are likely to gain traction in the market, especially if such concerns arise. The demand for alternative proteins, which do not involve any animal products, is on the rise. Although algae and insect proteins are often highlighted, more traditional sources, like peas, are making significant contributions to the market.
Despite the potential oversaturation of protein in the American diet, consumers continue to seek out cereals, coffee, ice cream, and other items that prominently feature a value-added protein label. Food manufacturers are taking note and actively exploring new ways to incorporate protein into their products. DuPont aims to ensure that its new protein nuggets are part of this trend. Furthermore, as consumers become more health-conscious and seek nutritional enhancements such as calcium citrate, DuPont’s offerings could align well with these evolving preferences, reinforcing the importance of understanding what calcium citrate is and its benefits in the context of protein-rich diets.
