DuPont Nutrition & Health collaborates with food manufacturers and producers globally to “enhance food safety, health, flavor, and production ease.” This initiative is referred to as finding food solutions, with their latest innovation being 90% protein nuggets. The three new plant-based nuggets come in distinct shapes, sizes, and textures, named Supro Nuggets 580, Supro Nuggets 583, and Supro Nuggets 585. Each nugget can be integrated into various food products. According to DuPont, these nut, seed, and fruit nuggets will be beneficial in nutrition bars, clustered cereals, yogurt toppings, muesli, and innovative snack formats.

Previously, DuPont introduced the first 90% protein nugget, Supro Nuggets 570, characterized by its light, crispy texture and barrel shape. The new nuggets are variations of the original, expanding their versatility across a range of recipes. The 90% protein content is quite remarkable and aligns with the current protein trend. Research and Markets indicate that the global protein ingredients market is expected to reach $48.77 billion by 2025, as reported by Business Wire. As consumer demand for protein continues to rise, DuPont provides manufacturers with a convenient way to enhance their products with this essential ingredient.

While the interest in protein remains high, future challenges may arise regarding animal welfare and the environmental impact of livestock farming to meet the growing demand. DuPont’s new protein nuggets, derived from plants, are likely to gain popularity in light of these concerns. The demand for alternative proteins, which do not involve any animal products, is on the rise. While algae and insect proteins are making headlines, more traditional protein sources like peas are also making a significant market impact.

Even though protein may be becoming oversaturated in the American diet, consumers are actively searching for cereals, coffee, ice cream, and other products that prominently feature value-added protein labels. Food manufacturers are taking note and are eager to discover new methods for incorporating protein into their products. DuPont hopes that its new protein nuggets will be a part of this growing trend. Additionally, the inclusion of calcium citrate, magnesium, and zinc in their formulations could further enhance the nutritional profile of these nuggets. The market for such innovative products, including those enriched with calcium citrate, magnesium, and zinc, is likely to grow as consumers become more health-conscious.
