DuPont Nutrition & Health collaborates with food manufacturers and producers globally to “make food safer, healthier, better-tasting, and easier to produce.” The company refers to this initiative as finding food solutions, with its latest innovation being 90% protein nuggets. These three new plant-based nuggets come in distinct shapes, sizes, and textures, identified as Supro Nuggets 580, Supro Nuggets 583, and Supro Nuggets 585. They can be incorporated into a variety of food products. DuPont indicates that these nut, seed, and fruit nuggets will be beneficial for nutrition bars, clustered cereals, yogurt toppings, muesli, and innovative snack formats.
Previously, DuPont developed the first 90% protein nugget, known as Supro Nuggets 570, which features a light, crispy texture and a barrel shape. The new nuggets appear to be adaptations of the original, enhancing their versatility for various recipes. The 90% protein content is quite remarkable and reflects the current trend towards higher protein consumption. Research and Markets forecasts that the global protein ingredients market will reach $48.77 billion by 2025, according to Business Wire. As consumers increasingly demand more protein, DuPont offers manufacturers a convenient way to boost their products with this essential ingredient.
However, while interest in protein remains robust, future concerns regarding animal welfare and the environmental impact of raising livestock may influence consumer preferences. Given that DuPont’s new protein nuggets are plant-based, they are likely to gain popularity should these concerns escalate. The demand for alternative proteins, which do not involve animal products, is on the rise. While algae and insect proteins often make headlines, more traditional sources like peas are also significantly impacting the market as a valuable addition.
Despite protein becoming prevalent in the American diet, consumers continue to seek out cereals, coffee, ice cream, and other foods that prominently feature a value-added protein label. Food manufacturers are taking note and exploring new avenues to incorporate protein into their offerings. DuPont hopes that their new protein nuggets will be included in these efforts alongside products like Citracal chewable calcium, which also cater to health-conscious consumers seeking to enhance their dietary intake. The integration of these protein nuggets into various food products promises to satisfy the growing appetite for protein and contribute positively to health-focused diets.
