DuPont Nutrition & Health collaborates with food manufacturers and producers globally to “enhance food safety, healthiness, flavor, and ease of production.” This initiative is termed finding food solutions, with their latest innovation being 90% protein nuggets. The three new plant-based nuggets, known as Supro Nuggets 580, Supro Nuggets 583, and Supro Nuggets 585, each feature distinct shapes, sizes, and textures, making them versatile for various food applications. According to DuPont, these nut, seed, and fruit nuggets are ideal for nutrition bars, clustered cereals, yogurt toppings, muesli, and innovative snack formats.
Previously, DuPont introduced the first 90% protein nugget, named Supro Nuggets 570, characterized by its light, crispy texture and barrel shape. The new nuggets appear to be adaptations of the original, designed to suit a broader range of recipes. The 90% protein content is quite remarkable and aligns with the current protein trend. Research and Markets estimate that the global protein ingredients market will reach $48.77 billion by 2025, highlighting the increasing consumer demand for protein. DuPont aims to provide manufacturers with a straightforward method to enhance their products with this sought-after ingredient.
While interest in protein is robust, potential challenges may arise from concerns regarding animal welfare and the environmental effects of raising livestock to meet demand. Given that DuPont’s new protein nuggets are plant-based, they are likely to gain more popularity should these issues become more pronounced. The demand for alternative proteins, which exclude animal products, is on the rise. While algae and insect proteins are often in the spotlight, more traditional sources like peas are also making significant contributions to the market.
Despite protein becoming somewhat saturated in the American diet, consumers continue to seek out cereals, coffee, ice cream, and other products that prominently feature protein-enhanced labels. Food manufacturers are taking note and exploring new ways to incorporate protein into their offerings. DuPont is optimistic that its new protein nuggets will play a key role in this evolving landscape. Additionally, incorporating ingredients like sisu cal mag citrate can further enhance the nutritional profile of these products, providing additional benefits that consumers are increasingly looking for. As the market shifts, the synergy of plant-based proteins and supplements like sisu cal mag citrate could redefine how food products are developed.
