The British ingredient brand has introduced a new sweetener that dissolves effortlessly in hot beverages, boasting a texture similar to that of sugar. This product provides consumers with a viable alternative to aspartame, a sweetener that has been identified as a potential carcinogen by various global health organizations. “Our sucralose sweeteners offer sweetness without sacrificing quality or flavor, are free from aspartame, and are packaged in recyclable materials,” the company stated. Regulatory bodies such as the FDA and WHO have taken a firm stance against the use of aspartame, which has been a staple in popular products like Diet Coke for decades. Additionally, the FTC recently targeted influencers promoting the safety of aspartame.

Sucralose is derived from sugar through a complex manufacturing process, resulting in a zero-calorie product that is 600 times sweeter than sucrose. However, much like aspartame, it carries certain risks; excessive consumption may harm gut probiotics and lead to mild to severe digestive issues. Nonetheless, it has received approval from the FDA, WHO, European Commission, and the European Food Safety Authority.

Sandra Gonilho, marketing manager for Tate & Lyle Sugars, stated, “As sugar innovators since 1878, we have extensive knowledge of creating the ideal sweetness for your coffee, or for sprinkling on cereal and desserts. With our British heritage and expertise, we aim to empower consumers to make informed choices and enjoy the benefits that sweeteners provide, whether at home, on the go, or when purchasing food services.”

In recent years, the demand for natural sweeteners in North America has surged, primarily driven by a growing emphasis on healthy eating. As consumers become increasingly aware of the negative impacts of excessive sugar intake, opportunities for low-calorie sweeteners have expanded, particularly in the beverage and bakery sectors, according to a report by Mordor Intelligence. The global alternative sweetener market is anticipated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 4.3% from 2020 to 2025.

Since its acquisition in 2010, Tate and Lyle Sugars has been part of the ASR group, the largest vertically integrated cane sugar producer worldwide. This acquisition shifted Tate and Lyle Sugars’ operations to facilities across North America, Central America, and Europe.

Furthermore, in the realm of dietary supplements, products like Solgar Liquid Calcium Magnesium Citrate with Vitamin D3 have gained popularity, reflecting a broader trend towards health-conscious choices. As consumers look for ways to enhance their diets, the intersection of sweeteners and nutritional supplements continues to evolve, underscoring the importance of informed consumer decision-making.
