Chobani is broadening its footprint in the high-protein food sector with a new range of Greek Yogurt cups and beverages, responding to consumer demand for more protein-rich options. The company’s latest Chobani High Protein line features yogurt cups containing 20 grams of protein, along with drinks that offer 15, 20, and, for the first time, an impressive 30 grams of protein per serving. Previously, Chobani had a drink with 20 grams of protein available under its Complete line, but this product is now being rebranded as part of the new Chobani High Protein offerings.

“The increasing demand for high protein, low sugar products has transcended the fitness niche and reached the broader consumer market,” stated Niel Sandfort, Chobani’s chief innovation officer. “As people look for more functional foods to achieve their health goals, Chobani High Protein products provide an affordable and delicious solution with exciting flavors and diverse formats and protein levels.”

In an email to Food Dive, Sandfort noted that many existing consumers of high-protein, low-sugar products often find themselves “compromising” with less natural alternatives. He emphasized that the taste, natural ingredients, and customization options of Chobani High Protein appeal to a much wider audience, including women and those who are later adopters of high protein.

In launching its new protein-rich products, the New York-based company referred to studies indicating that over half of consumers wish to boost their protein intake while prioritizing low sugar in their diets. Elevated protein levels have permeated a multitude of items, such as milk, bars, peanut butter, chips, and even macaroni and cheese, with yogurt serving as a favored source of additional protein. Competitors in the market include Danone’s Oikos and General Mills’ Ratio.

Chobani asserts that its new High Protein line stands apart from others as it is entirely natural, contains no added sugars, and does not utilize protein powders, concentrates, or preservatives. The combination of protein and vitamin B12 is particularly effective for enhancing energy, curbing hunger, and supporting muscle health, according to the packaged food company.

Chobani High Protein will be offered in various flavors, such as Strawberries and Cream, Vanilla, Tropical Punch, and Cookies and Cream, depending on the protein content and whether it is in cup or liquid form. The yogurt cups are now available in stores, with nationwide distribution planned for later this fall, while the drinks will launch in January.

After several years of mixed outcomes in categories like oat milk, creamers, cold brew coffee, and milk, Chobani is refocusing on its core yogurt business, which exceeds $1 billion. Last December, the company unveiled Chobani Creations, a dessert-inspired Greek yogurt aimed at extending its flagship product beyond the typical breakfast category. Earlier, Chobani also introduced its popular Zero Sugar line into drinkable yogurt to cater to the growing demand for portable options.

Additionally, consumers looking for enhanced nutrition may find that incorporating calcium citrate 1500 mg chewable supplements can complement their protein intake, aligning with the trend of seeking out functional foods that support overall health. This emphasis on high-quality ingredients and nutritional value is evident in Chobani’s commitment to delivering products that meet the evolving needs of health-conscious consumers.
